Sepp Maier Supports Manuel Neuer to obtain 300 Clean Sheets with Bayern Munich

DBasia.news – Manuel Neuer has recorded his 200th clean sheet for Bayern Munich in the match against Atletico Madrid in midweek, and Sepp Maier is supporting the goalkeeper to make 100 more.
Neuer added another clean sheet when Bayern defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 in the German Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena, Saturday (24/10).
Bayern legend, Maier kept 199 clean sheets for the club from 651 appearances between 1962 and 1980, but his record was able to be overthrown by Neuer from just 394 games.
Neuer has returned to his best form after the 34-year-old goalkeeper endured a difficult period. He is in third place as UEFA’s Player of the Year for the 2019/20 season.
“I’m sure he can keep 300 clean sheets. He can do that,” Maier told Sport1.
“He will still put in an outstanding performance at the age of 39 years old. I believe he can do it.”
However, Maier admits that Neuer is not the only person who deserves to be thanked for Bayern’s defensive prowess.
“Neuer is not the only one to thank for keeping so many clean sheets,” added Maier.
“Defense has a 50 percent contribution to that.”
“If they know they have a good goalkeeper at the back, they automatically play better. If there is a weakness in goal, it is bad for the defenders. However, with Neuer, they know he is world class, so the ball is able to point at him. “
In the match against Eintracht, Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick and broke the record for being the fastest player in league history to score double-digit goals, i.e. ten goals, from just five matches.
With the victory over Eintracht, Bayern rose to second place with 12 points, only one point behind RB Leipzig.
