Sergio Busquets’ Future that Determines the Fate of Ruben Neves
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Sergio Busquets is no longer young at 34 years old. However, sooner or later the La Masia player will retire and Barcelona has started looking for a replacement.
Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, said that one day his team would look for a replacement for Busquets. One of the names associated with Barcelona is Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder, Ruben Neves.
The 25-year-old player has been defending Wolves since 2017 after leaving Porto. At that age and experience playing at international level, Neves is considered ready to defend big European clubs.
Laporta was tempted to talk about Neves and praise him, but he respected Wolves and said nothing more. However, Laporta also indicated that the club is starting to look for a replacement for Busquets and leaving the decision, regarding players, to Barcelona coach, Xavi.
“Neves is a great player, but this is part of the private conversation,” Laporta said as quoted by Sport-English.
“Busquets is not going to last forever and there is internal discussion to find him a guaranteed replacement. Frenkie de Jong can play in this position, but he won’t do it with one player. Xavi will decide this eventually.”
Laporta also confirmed that Busquets would stay at Barcelona until the end of this season. “There is a good relationship with his representative, Jorge Mendes. He wants to continue at Barca and we have fulfilled everything,” added Laporta.
According to Transfermarkt, Neves’ official tag is around 40 million euros. The Portugal national team midfielder has played 26 times in all competitions with a record of four goals. Neves is a typical hard-working midfielder, able to make transitions in play, has good vision, is good at shooting long distances and can take free kicks.
