Serving More Than 30 Years, Steve Bould Was Fired By Arsenal

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Having served for more than 30 years, Steve Bould actually had to accept the harsh reality of being fired by Arsenal. The former center-back was dismissed from his position as coach of Arsenal’s U-23 team.

As a player, Bould played for Arsenal for 11 years from 1988 to 1999. He returned to the club as coach in 2001. At that time, he served as assistant to Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery before returning to the academy.

The 58-year-old coach has handled the youth team after previously being part of Wenger’s coaching staff.

After more than a decade of working with the academy, Bould has been Wenger’s number two coach since assistant coach Pat Rice retired. Bould played an important role until the end of the Wenger era in 2018. A year later Bould entered the academy to fill the position left by Freddie Ljungberg, who rose to become caretaker manager of the first team.

Bould won three Premier League titles with Arsenal, including Wenger’s first title in 1998, as well as two FA Cups, a League Cup and a Cup Winners’ Cup.

Bould’s dismissal was reportedly part of a restructuring undertaken by Arsenal. Previously, 55 staff were laid off in August last year.
