DBasia.news – England coach Gareth Southgate praised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ability to improve Harry Maguire’s mentality. The results of Solskjaer’s work helped Maguire a lot in the England national team.

Harry Maguire signed a contract with Manchester United in August 2019. Then, he was appointed team captain in January 2020 after Ashley Young left for Inter Milan.

Now, the 28 year old has become an integral part of the club and the national team. Harry Maguire has been in impressive form after returning from injury. Maguire became one of England’s key players to reach the semifinals of the 2020 European Cup.

Southgate was happy with Maguire’s development in recent times. According to him, it was inseparable from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to appoint Maguire as captain of Man United.

“We have a lot of contact with the players when we’re not together. We do it as much as we can,” Southgate said as quoted by the Mirror.

“I try to respect the club and don’t interfere. However, there were obviously some moments where they needed more support. The start of the season was challenging for Harry Maguire.”

“So, it’s very nice to see how he emerges with more confidence as a leader. You can see that in the team,” continued the tactician.

“Being captain of Manchester United is a big challenge. However, that responsibility has made Harry Maguire develop rapidly,” said Southgate.

“You can see he is more confident. Not only has his level of play gone up, but he has matured as well.”

Now, Harry Maguire’s ability is highly expected in the semifinal match against Denmark, at Wembley Stadium, Thursday (8/7). If they win, the Three Lions will meet one of Italy or Spain in the top match.
