DBasia.news – PGE Arena Gdansk, Poland will be the arena for the 2020-2021 Europa League final duel between Manchester United and Villarreal, Thursday (27/05). The duel will be an interesting dish.
For Man United, the match will be a test of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s eligibility to become the club manager for the future. The club legend has coached since 2018 but has not presented a single trophy.
“We have five victories in Europe. We lost twice to Barcelona,” said Solskjaer as quoted by FourFourTwo.
“It is a big night for us. It may be a stepping stone for something better in the future, a bright future because this team is a young team.”
“This is a team we’ve been rebuilding over the last few years, so hopefully this is the start of something more in the future.”
“Of course Sir Alex is with us, we know May 26 is Sir Matt (Busby)’s birthday, but the players, when they joined Man United, they came to win trophies.”
“They accept the challenge of being the best because this is the best club in the world, so that’s the pleasure of Man United’s pressure. It’s something they are prepared for because they would not have entered here if they were not top players.”
Solskjaer affirms his team to win trophies. When you see the final will be the first for Villarreal, United are seeded on paper. But Villarreal coach Unai Emery has great experience in the Europa League.
The former Arsenal and PSG coach has won it three times with Sevilla and streaked it from 2014 to 2016. If he wins it again later, Emery will be the first coach to win four Europa League titles.
Statistics
Man United and Villarreal have met four times in Europe before and the results have been tough: four draws without a goal. Villarreal provide fierce resistance and are difficult to penetrate the defense.
Villarreal hopes to be the 10th team from Spain to beat the English team in the final. Man United previously lost twice to Barcelona in the Champions League. But United have won five of the last seven European finals.
In the match, Bruno Fernandes’ vision and quality of play will be a test for Villarreal’s defense. Not only does Fernandes create opportunities to score goals, while from Villarreal there is LaLiga’s second top scorer who will test Man United’s defense, Gerard Moreno.
