Son of Former German Captain Michael Ballack Dies in Accident

DBasia.news – Sad news came from the family of former German national team captain, Michael Ballack. His second child, Emilio, died in an accident while on vacation in Portugal.

Reported by Portuguese media, TVI24, and quoted by the Daily Mail, this unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday (5/8/2021) morning local time in Troia, a peninsula off the coast of Setubal south of Lisbon, at Ballack’s house.

Emilio was reportedly hit by his quad bike, which was moving backwards due to the uneven ground. Paramedics, police and firefighters were also called to try to save him, but Emilio was pronounced dead on the spot.

At the time of the accident, Ballack’s family members were also there, but it is not stated whether Ballack himself was there or not.

Emilio’s body has reportedly been taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Santiago de Cacem, Setubal for an autopsy. There has been no statement from Ballack regarding this incident.

Emilio died at the age of 18. Born in 2002, he is Ballack’s second son with his ex-wife, Simone Lambe. Besides Emilio, Ballack has children named Louis and Jordi. Ballack and Lambe split in 2012.

Ballack was the mainstay of Germany’s midfielder in the 1999-2010 period. He made 98 appearances and scored 42 goals, and led Die Mannschaft to runners-up at the 2002 World Cup and 2008 European Cup.

At club level, he won the Bundesliga three times with Bayern Munich (2003, 2005, 2006), won the Premier League once with Chelsea (2010), and was runner-up in the Champions League twice, with Chelsea (2008) and Bayer respectively. Leverkusen (2002).

Chelsea as Ballack’s former club has expressed its condolences.
