Southampton vs Man City: The Citizens won 1-0

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Manchester City managed to overcome fierce resistance from Southampton. The Citizens won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Raheem Sterling.

The only goal of the game was scored by Raheem Sterling in the 16th minute. Man City had 52% possession of the ball with 11 attempted kicks and five of them were on target.

It wasn’t easy to beat Southampton coached by Ralph Hasenhuttl who is currently on the rise. Even after the defeat to City, The Saints is still in fourth place with 24 points, City is below with a distance of one point and played one game less.

Two interesting records emerged from Opta after the game ended. Sterling goal scorer, Kevin De Bruyne has now provided 15 assists in the Premier League in 2020. That amount has already exceeded any player and his best record in 2017 (18 assists).

Another special and interesting note is the fact that City did not concede goals, aka clean sheets. City according to Opta’s record have not conceded a goal better than other teams.

“After today’s 1-0 win, no team has conceded fewer goals (12 goals) or recorded more clean sheets (six times) than Man City in the Premier League. City have conceded six goals in 11 league games since losing 2-5. from Leicester City, “tweeted @OptaJoe.

This means that City have shown improvement from the defensive side after recruiting Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias in the summer of 2020. It is good that City’s defense is unique when considering Pep Guardiola’s offensive football philosophy.

Guardiola is allegedly trying to balance his team’s offensive play with a solid defense. Until now, the defenses raised by his team has appeared well.
