Spain National Team’s 1,000 penalty kicks obligation

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Luis Enrique, coach of Spain, is confident to be able to overcome resistance from Morocco in the last 16 match. Enrique believes that the Matador Team will win, and that includes penalties.

“120 minutes was fine for me and a penalty too. Penalties are not a lottery,” Enrique said as quoted by Marca.

In major tournaments, England are often judged as a team that has a bad record in penalty shootouts. However, Spain also has a similar memory.

La Furia Roja was eliminated at the 2018 World Cup after losing on penalties to hosts Russia in the last 16. Then at the 2020 European Cup, Spain failed to reach the final as they lost on penalties against Italy.

Ahead of the match against Morocco, Enrique appeared confident that his troops will not repeat the nightmare. Enrique’s belief cannot be separated from the preparations his troops have made.

“More than a year ago, during one of Spain’s training sessions, I reminded the players, they have to arrive at the World Cup having taken at least a thousand penalties,” said Luis Enrique.

“In my imagination, they have done the homework. The reason is, if waiting for penalty kick practice after being here, it is not enough.”

It will be interesting to look forward to whether La Furia Roja are able to overcome Morocco, including if the match has to end in a shootout from the spot.
