Supporters Becomes the Element Missed by Thomas Muller
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Thomas Muller acknowledged Bayern Munich’s victory in the DFB-Pokal final while leaving “a bit of disappointment” as the German giants claimed their second trophy of the season without the presence of supporters.
Hansi Flick’s team won a convincing 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the final, Sunday (5/7) AM, with a brace from Robert Lewandowksi in the second half ending the opposing team’s resistance.
Bayern themselves were able to excel two balls early in the first half through the efforts of David Alaba and Serge Gnabry, and now the Bundesliga champions are claiming a 17th consecutive victory in all competitions.
As for Muller, who played until the 88th minute, admitted that the success of his team would be sweeter with the presence of supporters.
“This is a slightly disappointing moment. When fans are absent in domestic cup finals like this, it doesn’t feel the same,” Muller told ARD. “We did well for most of the season [without the presence of spectators], but this is rather painful as well.”
While football competition in Germany became one of the first to continue amid the corona virus pandemic, the match continued to be played without spectators.
Although Muller’s excitement is filled with sadness, Flick is thrilled with what he sees from his team as Bayern can now shift their focus entirely to the Champions League.
“We are leaving the stadium proudly that we have achieved this. What the team has achieved in the past few weeks has been sensational,” Flick told Sky after the match.
“The attitude of this team is fantastic. I am truly thrilled. The way the team is playing is extraordinary. Today was fun.”
Meanwhile, veteran goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer believes Bayern’s continued success amid the pandemic is a sign of a strong club mentality, while the treble is now in their sights.
“We have experienced in the past few weeks how motivated and hungry FC Bayern are,” Neuer told Sky.
“What we have achieved is something very special. That attitude is sensational. We now have a little break, and then we will prepare ourselves at the top and of course try to win the treble.”
