Tens of Thousands of Spectators Crowded the Belgrade Derby in the Serbian Cup Semifinals

DBasia.news – The Belgrade derby brought Partizan and Red Star to the Serbian Cup semifinals, Thursday (11/6) AM. 25 thousand spectators participated in the match at the Partizan Stadium.

The meeting of the two biggest clubs in Serbia is one of the hottest derbies in Europe. It was not separated from the ferocity of ultras owned by Partizan and Red Star.

Partizan was finally able to defeat their nemesis with a score of 1-0 to advance to the final. The hosts’ winning goal was scored by Bibras Natcho in the 58th minute.

“I thank the fans for their fantastic support and this is good for securing a victory in front of a full stadium,” Partizan coach, Savo Milosevic said after the match.

“Having that kind of support is really important today. It’s great to see supporters who have almost filled the stadium’s capacity after football has been suspended for such a long time.”

The presence of supporters in football matches has become a rare thing amid the corona virus pandemic. Many leagues have been forced to continue competitions in private or without spectators to reduce the spread of the virus.

The Serbian League actually took a similar step. When continuing the competition on May 29, the fractional country of Yugoslavia also banned spectators’ attendance at the stadium.

But now, Serbian football authorities have begun opening stadium doors for a limited number of supporters. A small number of Red Star supporters also attended the stadium when their favorite club won 4-1 over Radnik Surdulica in the Serbian League last weekend.
