Termination of LaLiga and Banco Santander’s Contracts
By db-admin
DBasia.news – LaLiga and Banco Santander have completed their existing contracts from 2016/2017 and the changes will take effect from 2023/2024.
Over the six seasons this collaboration has run, the relationship between LaLiga and Banco Santander has transcended the competition’s official sponsorship. This has been a period of close collaboration between the two institutions, with a strong understanding and relationship that has driven the promotion of successful joint projects, such as the LaLiga Promises (U-12 football competition) in addition to the main sponsors of the LaLiga competition.
One of the most iconic products of this collaboration is undoubtedly LaLiga Genuine Santander, a competition for players with intellectual disabilities. The competition is structured in such a way that Banco Santander, who has been one of the main driving forces behind this initiative since its inception in the 2017/18 season, and LaLiga are working together on a model to continue to sponsor this competition which means that LaLiga, together with its Foundation, is the first professional football league in the world to organize competitions for footballers with intellectual disabilities.
LaLiga President Javier Tebas said: “We are grateful for the trust Banco Santander has placed in LaLiga over the years, and we are confident that we will continue to collaborate on future projects with Banco Santander to continue to grow and promote both brands.”
Antonio Simoes, Regional Head of Europe and CEO of Santander Spain, added: “We are delighted with our partnership with LaLiga over the years and look forward to exploring further forms of collaboration.”
The two organizations have developed a close and fruitful relationship over six seasons of collaboration, with outstanding achievements that go beyond mere advertising presence, involving national and international strategic development projects, in a digital environment and at a level observable by football fans.
It is worth highlighting initiatives such as the LaLiga Global Network, which enabled LaLiga, in collaboration with Banco Santander and Universia, to take a decisive step in its internationalization with the establishment of the LaLiga Global Network of delegates, which currently has a total of 44 delegates in 41 countries worldwide.
Education has been another pillar of the relationship between LaLiga and Banco Santander, joining forces to create LaLiga ProPlayer and to promote university education and in the creation of sports scholarships in the US for lower category players, as well as the creation of a training program for active professional footballers by 2021.
LaLiga Business School’s Global Players Program is the first of Europe’s major leagues and has 30 players joined in its first edition.
When it comes to digital entertainment and development, Banco Santander has provided strong support for eLaLiga, LaLiga’s eSports competition, and Santander Football Quiz, an app co-developed to entertain, test and reward LaLiga Santander fans week after week.
These projects allow the bank and LaLiga to connect with a wider community and a younger audience, both of which are key to their business goals.
During the pandemic, when football was suspended, LaLiga and Banco Santander teamed up to keep fans entertained and launched #LaLigaSantanderFest, an online festival where 50 artists and footballers gather to raise funds to fight COVID-19.
Social awareness has marked the partnership between the two institutions in recent seasons, leading to a number of other projects such as ‘Hambre a 0’, a collaboration with the Food Bank (Banco de Alimentos) and financial contributions to national and international projects run by the LaLiga Foundation for the less fortunate.
The 2022/23 season will be the final season of collaboration as the main sponsor of the competition and both organizations have expressed their commitment to continue on the same path and with the same dedication to maximize sponsorship benefits and contribute to achieving mutual growth goals.
