The COVID-19 vaccination is still a polemic in the Premier League

DBasia.news – Vaccination against the corona virus (COVID-19) has become a polemic in almost all parts of the world. The same thing also happened the 2021-2022 Premier League title.

The Premier League operator actually requires all players from the 20 participating teams to carry out the COVID-19 vaccination before the new season begins. However, this rule does not work optimally.

This was revealed after a number of players were infected with COVID-19. Arsenal player Granit Xhaka is the latest person to experience it.

Xhaka tested positive for COVID-19 while responding to the call for the Swiss national team. He also had to miss the international break this month because he had to undergo self-isolation.

Xhaka apparently refused to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. This fact certainly sets a bad precedent for the Premier League.

According to a report by The Telegraph, nearly a third of footballers who have made a career in England across all divisions have not received a COVID-19 vaccination. Some of them even refused.

As for the Premier League, only three clubs are willing to provide data regarding the list of players who have received and refused vaccinations. The three clubs are Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United and Brentford.

Wolves are the only team whose players have received two doses of the vaccine. While Leeds is only 96% and Brentford 89%.

This fact raises its own concerns for the British government. Britain’s deputy medical officer, Jonathan Van-Tam hopes that footballers can be an example for other people to raise awareness of the importance of vaccination.

The British government is believed to be pressuring the Premier League to require players to take vaccinations. Meetings with the captains of each club have even been held to discuss this polemic.
