The legend Says Germany Can Defeat England
By db-admin
DBasia.news – German legend Lothar Matthaus says England have a chance to beat Germany in the last 16 of the European Cup on Tuesday (29/6). But Matthaus half-jokingly added, but England will lose if the match ends in a penalty shootout.
Of course Matthaus was referring to England’s bad history with penalty shootouts in international tournaments, especially against Germany. History records England have never won a knockout match at the European Cup in normal time and lost against Germany on penalties in 1996.
At that time who failed to become the executor of the penalty was none other than Gareth Southgate, the current England coach.
However, England defender John Stones said England were prepared for the possibility of a penalty shoot-out against Germany. Stones made sure the team was prepared to win through any scheme.
“The way we’re doing it now, we’ve been training so much,” Stones said.
“We’ve been training to stay focused on what to do if your turn comes up,” Stones added.
At the 2018 World Cup, England ended a poor record on penalties when they beat Colombia. Stones said the training they did during the tournament was not much different. In other words, England has prepared all scenarios for the match, including penalty shootouts.
“I remember being seventh kicker at the World Cup, after Eric Dier. It was a scary moment. But I was prepared because of this process we always talk about. It’s about making you as comfortable as possible in that situation,” said Stones.
