The meaning of Boxing Day celebrations is diminished due to Covid-19

DBasia.news – Boxing Day is a tradition that is deeply rooted in English football. However, celebrations for this year have been disrupted by the issue of the corona virus (Covid-19).

Boxing Day is a tradition that is celebrated one day after Christmas. The people of Queen Elizabeth’s Country are given the opportunity to spend time with family and are synonymous with exchanging gifts.

This tradition has been going on for more than a century. Football, which is also very synonymous with England, also doesn’t want to be left behind.

Competition operators from various divisions hold matches on January 26. It aims to provide entertainment to families who are gathering.

Many flock to the stadium directly. The match has been arranged in such a way that the two competing teams are in close proximity to make it easier for the fans.

Unfortunately, a different experience will be felt on Boxing Day this year. A number of clubs did not take part due to the ferocity of the Omicron variant of the corona virus.

Three Premier League matches have been confirmed to be postponed due to this issue. The matches in question are Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Watford, Liverpool vs Leeds United, and Burnley vs Everton.

Positive cases of Covid-19 are indeed increasing at three clubs, namely Everton, Leeds and Watford. The number of postponed matches is in danger of increasing after Crystal Palace also contracted the virus.

Even though Palace are scheduled to visit Tottenham Hotspur headquarters, Sunday (26/12) at 22.00 WIB. Until this news was revealed, the fate of the match had not been decided.

According to a Daily Mail report, 25 matches from the four divisions on Boxing Day this time have been postponed. Later there will only be 10 matches from divisions below the Premier League that can be held.

This is of course very unfortunate as the meaning of Boxing Day celebrations will be slightly reduced for supporters whose club schedule has been postponed. Moreover, a similar problem did not occur last year when the new pandemic period was set.

Even so, health must remain a top priority. It’s better for a tradition to be disrupted than fo Covid-19 to get worse and make the situation even more out of control.
