The reason Pep Guardiola was ‘furious’ when Man City defeated Sporting Lisbon

DBasia.news – One of Manchester City’s leg is already in the quarter-finals of the 2021-2022 Champions League. The Citizens won 5-0 over Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of the last 16 which was held at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, Wednesday (16/02) morning WIB.
Playing as a guest did not affect Man City, they dominated possession up to 64% with a total of 15 kicks (six on target and five goals).
City’s goals came from Riyad Mahrez (7′), Bernardo Silva (17′ 44′), Phil Foden (32′) and Raheem Sterling (58′) goals. City have already won by a long way and Sporting will have to win 6-0 in the second leg, which takes place at the Etihad Stadium, if they are to qualify, a near impossible mission.
But Pep Guardiola is not someone who is quickly satisfied with these results. Guardiola is still analyzing City’s weaknesses against Sporting.
“We defended with the ball and we have to keep the ball better than we did today,” said Guardiola.
“One of the main rules I have is when you have the ball, try to pass the ball to a player who is wearing the same jersey as you.”
“This is the first (thing). After that, we’ll see what happens. When they are alone and lose the ball it doesn’t make sense and it happens time and time again. The difference between the two teams is not 0-5, that’s for sure.”
“Today it was because we were very clinical, and when this happens it is mentally challenging for the opponent and you are more confident and relaxed,” he added.
City’s first goal was judged by VAR and Guardiola realized it gave his team a chance to improve.
“Sometimes football is the first goal margin, offside or onside. When VAR takes 30-45 seconds, I think maybe the offside margin is like this,” he added.
“Sometimes the margin to win a game is like that (again gesture) and all the analysis is about how good one team is and how bad the other is from that margin.”
“Maybe you have this task, but I have another task to see how they perform individually as a team and whether we carry out the plan well or not.”
“Don’t get me wrong: it’s a dream, a perfect result and great for the second leg, but we can do better,” stated Guardiola.
