The situation of David Luiz’s new contract at Chelsea

The problem is that Chelsea has a policy that it will only give a new contract for a season for players aged 30 years or more. While Luiz wants a two-year contract – he will be 34 years old in the next two years.

This made it difficult for the meeting point to negotiate a new contract. In addition to the prerequisites of each party, Luiz’s fate will also depend on Maurizio Sarri’s future as Chelsea manager.

Sarri likes Luiz’s style of play which can build attacks from behind and this season plays more, so Andreas Christensen and Gary Cahill are displaced on the Chelsea bench.

Luiz’s chance to survive was also quite large because Chelsea were sanctioned by players’ ban in the second period of the transfer market. If Luiz were sold or left at the end of the season, Chelsea would lack stock of players at the center-back position.
