DBasia.news – The prestige of coaches or managers from Germany is now no less famous than Italian products. The tactical drafters from Germany are gaining popularity in Europe thanks to their achievements in 2020.

The year 2020 was marked by a pandemic of the corona virus that hit the world, but on the one hand the managers from Germany showed their quality in Europe and also the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp lead Liverpool to an end to their 30-year wait for the league title. Thomas Tuchel brought PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) to the Champions League final, Julian Nagelsmann led RB Leipzig to the semifinals of the Champions League.

Hans-Dieter Flick even incised the gold ink in the history of Bayern Munich by winning treble winners of the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFP Pokal titles. It continued until this year and winning sextuples (six trophies a year) at the Club World Cup, European Super Cup and German Super Cup.

The competitive rivalry between the German managers is now continuing in England. The presence of Tuchel as a substitute for Frank Lampard at Chelsea has made the duel against Liverpool like a German derby.

The first Meeting of Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp

“Jurgen Klopp has had seven unbelievably successful seasons here. We will now try to create a new leaf at a high level. Klopp is building a great foundation. We have to continue.”

That was Thomas Tuchel’s first greeting when he was appointed to coach Borussia Dortmund in 2015, replacing Jurgen Klopp who went to Liverpool to fill the post left by Brendan Rodgers.

It is not easy for Tuchel to train Dortmund who has been trained by Klopp for some time, especially since Tuchel was previously limited to training FC Augsburg team and Mainz. However, Tuchel is also an alumni of a well-known coaching school in Germany (Hennes-Weisweiler).

Having the same base as the Lehrer Tuchel fussball curriculum, also carrying the German-style gegenpress philosophy. The basics of gegenpress are the same as relying on pressure and fast counter-attacks, but the applications in development for each trainer are different.

Tuchel has since coached Dortmund, PSG and now with Chelsea trying to dominate possession by gegenpress inside the opposition defense, while Klopp is more defensive, pressing, grabbing the ball and then launching quick counter-attacks.

No doubt Thiago Alcantara’s entry to Liverpool this season has changed Liverpool’s game, which has more possession of the ball, but is not fast when carrying out attacks.

The development of both gegenpress was first seen in the 2015-2016 season. Klopp led Liverpool to the Europa League final before losing to Sevilla, but halfway through that trip he met Tuchel’s Dortmund in the quarter-finals.

The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw at Signal Iduna Park and in the second leg an exciting match took place. Henrik Mkhitaryan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marco Reus gave Dortmund a 3-1 lead from a goal reduced by Divock Origi.

Dortmund seemed to qualify for the semifinals with an aggregate advantage of 4-2 goals, but the mentality and fighting power that Klopp transmitted to Liverpool players was responded to by his squad well.

A dramatic comeback also occurred when Philippe Coutinho, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren scored until Liverpool won 4-3 and escaped with a 4-3 on aggregate.

“If you expect an explanation, I have to disappoint you. It is illogical. It is very emotional,” said Tuchel at the time.

“It was an atmosphere when I thought everyone except our supporters believed it was meant to be. It was fate.”

“If you think about the Champions League final with AC Milan when Liverpool came from 0-3 (2005) down to win, it contributes to the energy and confidence in the stadium. Then everyone believes in luck.”

“We want to win like champions, now we have to at least lose like champions and get back up. We don’t need sympathy or a pat on the back. Everyone congrats Liverpool.”

Klopp also remembers Liverpool’s comeback moment in 2005 against AC Milan in the Champions League final. He is happy with the character of his players.

“Often in football the game ends but not here, not with this team,” added Klopp.

“It’s a moment in football and life when you have to show character and that’s what the players do. It’s pretty cool to watch.”

Five years have passed. Klopp makes Liverpool the team they want to be, while Tuchel tries to build the Chelsea squad. It will be interesting to look forward to their duel in the German Derby.
