The story of Zidane and Koeman’s journey in El Clasico
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Ronald Koeman and Zinedine Zidane are El Clasico legends at their respective clubs. Both of them has made a total of 30 appearances in El Clasico in LaLiga as players and coaches. Besides, both of them know what it takes to win.
Ronald Koeman joined Barcelona in 1989. He won the Copa del Rey in the first season by beating Real Madrid in the final. His best goal in LaLiga came in 1994, where he scored a long-range free-kick in the 5-0 win over Real Madrid at Camp Nou.
The Dutch player also scored five goals in 11 El Clasico appearances. It showed offensive instincts and made him the defender with the all-time scoring record for world football (253 goals for club and national team), and the defender with the most goals for Barcelona (88).
In fact, Koeman is the defender with the most goals scored in LaLiga, until Sergio Ramos broke his record last season.
Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane played against Barcelona seven times as a player in LaLiga (two wins, three draws, two defeats). Zidane scored in a 4-2 win over Barca of big names like Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto’o in 2004.
However, Zidane’s best moments against Barcelona occurred in the Champions League. Zidane scored a superb goal in the first leg at Camp Nou to propel Madrid through to the final. That record continued in the final where he scored a neat volley kick against Bayer Leverkusen.
Zidane has had more success as coach of Real Madrid, including two LaLiga titles (2017, 2020) and three consecutive Champions League titles (2016, 2017, 2018) in his two terms as coach.
Not surprisingly, Zidane is said to be the most successful coach in the club’s history: Zidane managed to help Madrid win 11 trophies, only losing to Miguel Munoz with 14 trophies.
