There are doubts behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal scoring record
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Juventus striker, Cristiano Ronaldo has just named himself the top scorer in football history. However, there were some doubts regarding the record.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored one goal as Juventus defeated Napoli 2-0 in the Spanish Super Cup final. Ronaldo opened Juve’s victory in the 64th minute.
One additional goal has made the superstar score 760 goals at team and national team level. The breakdown is 75 goals at Juventus, 5 goals at Sporting CP, 118 goals at Manchester United, 450 goals for Real Madrid and 102 goals in Portugal.
This has made Ronaldo surpass the record of the previous record holder, Josef Bican, who scored 759 goals. Meanwhile, Pele occupied third place with 757 goals.
However, debate arises if the statistics used come from the Rec Sport Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF). According to RSSSF, Bican’s tally is 805 goals.
Bican’s additional goals was counted from defending Rapid Vienna’s reserve team. Meanwhile, several others came in unofficial international matches.
RSSSF also puts two Brazilian players, Romario and Pele, in a higher position than Ronaldo. Romario scored 772 goals and Pele posted 767 goals.
The water became even more cloudy as the two Brazilian legends claimed to have scored more than 1,000 goals. In 2007, Romario claimed to score his 1000th goal with a tally of goals in friendly and academy matches.
Meanwhile, Pele didn’t want to lose either. When his record was deemed to have been surpassed by Lionel Messi for matters of being the top scorer in a club, Pele fought back.
Santos, a club that Pele has strengthened for almost two decades, said the legend scored 1,091 goals. In fact, at the beginning of this month, Pele admitted to scoring 1,283 goals throughout his career.
However, once again, goals in friendly matches and informal matches also count.
One thing that is interesting is to see is if Lionel Messi can surpass Ronaldo’s record. Currently, Messi has scored 719 goals or is 41 goals behind his rivals. However, La Pulga is two years younger.
