Chelsea managed to overthrow Crystal Palace with a thin score of 2-1 in the match week 9 of the Premier League 2022/2023, Saturday (1/10/2022). The Blues had to fight until the 90th minute to bring 3 points in this match.
The match did not go easy for Graham Potter’s team. Palace took the lead through Odsonne Edouard’s quick goal in the 7th minute, Chelsea were taking their time to warm up.
It was only in the 38th minute that Chelsea equalized through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal. Then, right at the end of the match, Conor Gallagher scored to wrap up the Blues’ victory.
This victory was crucial for Chelsea, but there was controversy over Aubameyang’s scoring process.
This incident occurred in the 33rd minute. Ayew managed to snatch the ball and ran into the goal to deal with the goalkeeper. However, Silva pushed the ball with his hands in the process of falling onto the field.
VAR clearly showed Silva’s handball. The incident was clearly visible, Silva even seem to deliberately touch the ball. Palace players demanded a red card, but the referee only issued a yellow card.
The penalty was considered not commensurate with Silva’s offense. In fact, five minutes later, Silva made an assist for Aubameyang’s goal that opened Chelsea’s victory.
Palace players were understandably irritated, the referee’s decision was controversial. If Silva had received a deserved red card, Palace might not have conceded the first goal in that minute.
