Things We Need to Know from David Datro Fofana
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Chelsea continued the way the team revolutionized under Todd Boehly. After an internal reshuffle, the Blues also brought in players for the long term.
Ahead of the winter transfer market (January 2023) Chelsea managed to secure the services of a 20 year-old player, David Datro Fofana. On December 22, 2022 transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported the news.
“Exclusive: David Datro Fofana heading to Chelsea, transfer ends and here we go! There is full agreement between all parties, agreement reached,” said Romano.
“Has been told a medical examination will be carried out in London, on his birthday. Born in 2022, the Ivorian striker will join Chelsea from Molde for 12 million euros.”
Then on December 25, 2022 Romano emphasized this news as well as being a ‘Christmas present’ for Chelsea fans.
“David Datro Fofana’s deal, everything is complete. The documents have also been prepared after the medical tests were successfully carried out in London. It will be official soon,” added Romano.
“The club believes it is a smart signing for now and for the future at a cost of 12 million euros as many clubs in Europe want Fofana.”
Chelsea, of course, don’t just recruit players. Below, BolaSkor has summarized the things you need to know about David Datro Fofana:
1. David Datro Fofana and the Comparison with Erling Haaland
Fofana was born on December 22, 2022 in Ouragahio, Ivory Coast, and played in his hometown (AFAD) until February 2021 before joining Norwegian club Molde. Attention to him has grown since joining Molde.
A record of 24 goals and 10 assists from 65 matches was recorded with Molde. His great performance with the first European club he defended made him compared to the former Molde striker, Erling Haaland.
His transfer to Chelsea will break the Norwegian League transfer record, as Haaland was only purchased for 8 million euros in 2019 from Molde to RB Salzburg.
Comparisons with Haaland are inevitable because the club that they both defend, Haaland previously had a record of 20 goals and 6 assists in 50 matches with Molde.
“You said it yourself, ‘We (Fofana and Haaland) started at the same club’. Tomorrow, I will be like (Haaland). A great player,” said Fofana some time ago.
2. Playing Style
“I was made in the streets. I’m not like the others, uneducated. I’m not a product of the academy, everything comes from the streets. Street football has everything: technique, physicality and finishing because you play with a small goal. You have to be accurate to score goals.”
What Fofana describes also shows his game with physical strength, technique and finishing. Fofana’s weakness is that because he is a typical modern striker, he often leaves positions in the opponent’s penalty box to help the team build attacks.
3. Didier Drogba’s Incarnation
The owner of three caps with the Ivory Coast national team has also been compared to the Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, who defended the club for two periods (2004-2012 and 2014-2015).
With Fofana’s physical and technical strength, at the age of 20 he showed the potential of a top striker that even surpassed Fofana at that age. Moreover, Fofana is from Ivory Coast and idolizes Drogba.
“Chelsea has been my favorite club since I was a kid,” Fofana said in the past when speaking to Norwegian outlet TV2.
“Drogba played there, so they’ve always been my club. So, it’s my dream,” said Fofana, acknowledging Drogba’s influence as a role model and how it has shaped his life so far.
