Thomas Tuchel prefers Romelu Lukaku over Timo Werner

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Timo Werner, the spearhead from Germany, recalls his stories with the Blues. He felt that the failure with Chelsea could not be separated from the decision of Thomas Tuchel.

Timo Werner played for Chelsea in the summer of 2020 after an impressive spell in the Bundesliga. He scored 34 goals with RB Leipzig. Not surprisingly, the Blues disbursed £47.5 million to bring in Werner.

However, Werner’s journey at Stamford Bridge was not easy. He brought Chelsea to victory in the Champions League. However, on the other hand, scoring 12 goals in the debut season is not enough. Moreover, the amount decreased in the second year.

“I had a great first six months at Chelsea. As expected by the fans and the club,” Werner explained, as reported by The Sun.

“I scored goals and put in a good performance. I played almost every game in the first season and we won the Champions League. I scored a lot of goals, including against Madrid in the semifinals.”

Werner accused Tuchel of being the one who ended his career at Chelsea as Tuchel prefered to play Romelu Lukaku over him. Finally, he chose to return to Leipzig.

“Then, I was a bit forgotten by the manager. It’s not fair. It’s also the reason I have to come back to Leipzig to have fun again.”

“Tuchel’s biggest problem was choosing Lukaku over me after I won the Champions League almost always featuring in the first team.”

“That was the toughest moment for me to appear. There was a great player in front of me for €120 million,” Werner explained.

“Lukaku is a big striker and had to play after spending so much money. I don’t feel honoured enough. Maybe that’s why I’ve had my ups and downs.”

Interestingly, Romelu Lukaku also experienced challenges, like Timo Werner. Finally, the Belgian national team striker was loaned to Inter Milan.
