DBasia.news –  Torino was a mess after AC Milan was confirmed by CAS not to play in the 2019 Europa League. The Turin club replaced Milan’s position in the Europa League.

The Rossoneri violated FFP (Financial Fair Play) rules until they were kicked out of the 2019 Europa League. As a result, Roma, which should have started from the qualifying phase, immediately took Milan’s share in the Europa League group phase.

While Torino will start a trip in the Europa League from qualifying against Debrecen or Kukesi on July 25. One more team represented by Lazio who won the Europa League ticket after winning the Coppa Italia.

Although benefited as Milan were eliminated from the Europa League, Torino President, Urbano Cairo, believes that Torino indeed deserves to play in the Europa League. But, Cairo also pityed Milan as he admitted that he was a fan of Milan when he was a child.

“It’s great (Torino played in the Europa League). I was sad for Milan, as I was their fan when I was little, but this year was spectacular for us, the best year since I became president and Torino was the best era in winning three points,” Cairo said to Sky Sport Italia.

Last season Torino won 63 points. According to Cairo, those points, if you see results in the past, should have been enough to bring the team to play in European club tournaments.

“In the last 15 years, no team has collected 63 failed European qualifying points before, our qualification, therefore, is worth getting and there are some great wins the team has achieved throughout the season,” added Cairo.

“Not to mention a strong defense and Andrea Belotti returned to his best performance. It is very unfortunate if he did not play in Europe after seeing all that. Walter Mazzarri has given this team an identity. Now, we will strengthen the squad,” he explained.
