Totti opens up about Jorginho’s Pepnalty

DBasia.news – The failure to execute Jorginho’s penalty against Switzerland has made Italy’s chances of automatic qualification for the 2022 World Cup finals threatened. But Chelsea’s midfielder was defended by Francesco Totti.

Italy was only able to draw 1-1 against Switzerland at the Stadio Olimpico, Saturday (13/11). The visitors’ goal scored by Silvan Widmer (11′) was only able to be answered by Giovanni Di Lorenzo (36′).

Even though Italy was awarded a penalty at the end of the match. Jorginho who stepped forward as an executor had a chance to become a hero.

The victory over Switzerland did make Italy more relaxed when they played the last group C match against Northern Ireland. A draw was enough for Gli Azzurri to secure a ticket to Qatar.

But it seems to have burdened Jorginho. His kick surprisingly soared high from Swiss’ crossbar that was escorted by Yann Sommer.

Many people think that Jorginho is mentally disturbed as he failed to execute a penalty in the first meeting against Switzerland. The Brazilian player seems to be haunted by the shadow of this failure.

However, Totti considered Jorginho’s failure to execute a penalty as an understandable thing. He knew the burden of being an executioner as he carried it while playing.

“I think you feel the pressure when you have that kind of responsibility on your shoulders, especially in the last minute of the game. So it’s not easy to take a penalty,” Totti told Sky Sport Italia.

Totti had indeed carried out his duties as the penalty taker for the Italian national team and AS Roma. His record is quite good, namely 86 goals from 108 matches.

Totti also holds the record for most penalty goals scored in Serie A with 71 goals. A testament to his quality as a reliable executor of the white spot.

“I’ve always been told that I score most of my goals with penalties, but you still have to convert them because it’s not easy,” he added.

“Whether you score or miss, it’s all in your mentality. It’s understandable when you fail three times in a row, some doubts creep into your mind, even if you’re a champion.”
