DBasia.news – Chelsea’s match against Ajax Amsterdam in the fourth match of Group H of the Champions League ended with a 4-4 draw. The match that took place at Stamford Bridge, Wednesday (11/06) was exciting as it was filled by the participation of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) and the drama of two red cards.
Both Chelsea and Ajax Amsterdam alight with 4-2-3-1 tactics. Chelsea relied on Willian, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Tammy Abraham as an offensive player up front, while Ajax has David Neres, Judge Ziyech, Quincy Promes, and Dusan Tadic up front.
The game ran open at Stamford Bridge. Two goals were immediately created even though the match was not even 10 minutes in. The first goal came in the second minute when Tammy Abraham scored an own goal, reflecting the ball from Promes to his own net.
While the next goal was created in minute four. Jorginho scored from the spot after Pulisic was played by Joel Veltman. Without mercy, Jorginho scored against Ajax who was guarded by Andre Onana.
Ajax did not hesitate to serve Chelsea with an open game even though they played at the opponent’s headquarters. Sure enough, in the 20th minute, Ajax continued to be ahead when the Promes headed the ball, tricking Cesar Azpilicueta when he received Ziyech’s cross. 2-1 Ajax were ahead.
Chelsea tried to increase the intensity of their attacks to score again. However, it was Ajax who added advantage in the 35th minute. Again with an own goal. This time, Kepa Arrizabalaga scored an own goal when Ziyech’s shot from a free kick and struck his face.
Four goals in the first round lasted until halftime, plus an additional time of one minute ended.
In the second half, Frank Lampard included Reece James replacing Marcos Alonso. However, Ajax were getting further away with the fourth goal they scored in minute 55. Donny van de Beek, receiving the ball from Ziyech, scored from inside the penalty box. 4-1 Ajax away.
When the game seemed to have ended for Chelsea, the comeback moment occurred at the 63 minute. James gave a cross, reflected by Abraham, and the ball rolled in the area of the penalty box then struck by Azpilicueta. 2-4 Chelsea tried to catch up.
The drama took place on the 69 minutes. Two referees were given by the referee to two Ajax players, Joel Veltman and Daley Blind, two Ajax central defenders. Blind received a second red card after violating Abraham.
While Veltman received a red card after deliberately doing a handball when trying to block the ball from Callum Hudson-Odoi. Penalties were awarded and Jorginho reduced the position to 3-4.
Having no other choice, Erik ten Hag included Edson Alvarez and Perr Schuurs, replacing two Ajax offensive players, David Neres and Judge Ziyech.
Ajax were outnumbered by players, Chelsea were able to use it in the 74th minute. James, who entered in the second half, grabbed a wild ball in the Ajax penalty box and fired hard into the Ajax goal. 4-4 current position.
After that goal, Chelsea had enough chance to excel and even scored one more goal from Azpilicueta. Unfortunately, the goal of the Spanish player was annulled because of VAR (Video Assistant Referee). Then another opportunity was thwarted by Onana who appeared neatly in this fight.
Four minutes of added time ended in the second half and no more goals were created at Stamford Bridge. The match ended 4-4 and the competition was more exciting in group H. Chelsea, Ajax, and Valencia, both won seven points, only Lille were at the bottom of the standings with one point.
