DBasia.news – Unai Emery has confirmed he will remain Villarreal’s manager after turning down an offer from Newcastle United.
The former Arsenal manager emerged as a candidate for Newcastle United’s new coach to replace Steve Burce this week, in what would be their first permanent appointment since being acquired by a consortium from Saudi Arabia.
And now the Spaniard has confirmed he is deliberating with the Premier League side, who are currently second-bottom in the table after 10 games.
Unai Emery said he was “grateful” to have considered him as a potential new coach, but insisted that his commitment was 100% to Villarreal.
He said in a statement released on last Wednesday (3/11), “For all the racket that happened yesterday in other countries, within the club there is transparency and loyalty with the Roig family and with my squad, which is at the maximum level and with the squad, for me is the most important thing.”
“Villarreal CF is my home and I am 100% committed.”
“Honestly, I’m grateful for the interest of such a great club, but even more grateful to be here and that’s why I communicated to Fernando Roig for my decision to continue to be a part of this project, thanks to the commitment and respect I feel from him, the club and my players, which are mutually beneficial and reciprocal.”
Meanwhile former Bournemouth boss, Eddie Howe is said to have been an alternative target for the Magpies.
