Unai Emery’s words to Nicolas Pepe
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Unai Emery, Arsenal manager, gave his advice to the Gunners winger, Nicolas Pepe, who had difficulty adapting in the Premier League.
The public spotlight on Pepe is indeed big. Understandably, the 23-year-old player was bought for £ 72 million, Arsenal’s transfer record. But, so far Pepe’s performance is still far from expectations and is far less than the academy’s product, Bukayo Saka.
Emery defended Pepe from criticism. The Spaniard believes the former Lille player has a bright future at Arsenal and is working hard to develop at the moment.
“I am sure Pepe is a very good player, I am sure he will have a great career here, but he needs time. Many players when they come here, in the first month, the first season is not easy for them,” Emery said, quoted by Mirror.
“He still has to play, gain confidence, develop better than the players and also our performance, I think he is developing at this time,” he continued.
Emery also stressed that he and his players did not think about the salary of the club or how much their salary was. This salary problem is often a comparison with their performance when competing.
“They are human, every player. We play all the time, as coaches or players, under pressure. Under pressure is positive. Under pressure because we are at a big club is a very demanding goal,” Emery added.
“An honor is here. Players are here because they deserve to be here and they are honored to be here. That honor puts pressure, of course. But this is positive. Not because of salary, not about how much the club pays you. It’s irrelevant talking about money.”
“The players don’t think about salary or how much money the club spends to pay them. I didn’t think about my salary when I was a coach. For us, it’s only natural to play under pressure,” concluded the former PSG coach.
