Uncovered, Nine Premier League Clubs Had Requested CAS to Reject Manchester City Appeal

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Surprising facts revealed behind the cancellation of Manchester City to carry out a ban on appearing in European competition for two seasons. Nine Premier League clubs turned out to have asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to reject The Citizens appeal.

Manchester City were initially sanctioned by UEFA in February. They are accused of violating Financial Fair Play regulations by manipulating their income reports.

Manchester City flatly denied the allegations. They then appealed to CAS.

The result, CAS granted Manchester City’s appeal on July 13st. UEFA is considered to have failed to prove their accusation so that The Citizens’ sanctions of appearing in European competition for two seasons were lifted.

“The panel is of the view that UEFA in no way filed indiscriminate charges against City. But based on the evidence, the panel could not reach the conclusion that the hidden funds were paid to the City,” CAS statement said.

CAS’s decision made many parties disappointed. Some who vocally criticized them are Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp.

On the same occasion it was also revealed that in March, nine Premier League clubs tried to intervene CAS to reject Manchester City’s appeal. The nine clubs are Arsenal, Burnley, Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool, Man United, Newcastle, Tottenham, and Wolverhampton.

They certainly have a strong reason for doing so. One of them is to be more likely to appear in European competition.

Even so, CAS ignored the request. For one thing, the arguments and evidence presented by the nine clubs were not strong enough.

The CAS continued to carry out investigations until it finally annulled Manchester City’s sentence. They were only asked to pay a fine of 10 million euros.
