VAR in the eyes of Maurizio Sarri and Antonio Conte

DBasia.news –  VAR (Video Assistant Referee) has not been fully implemented. That was stated by two of the top coaches in Italy: Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri.

VAR is the talk of Italy after a series of controversies this season. One of the highlights of the match was Napoli’s duel against Atalanta.

At that time, Atalanta’s equalizer was deemed invalid because there had been a foul on Napoli before. However, the referee still didn’t budge and endorsed the visitors’ goal.

Antonio Conte considers, VAR has not been used optimally in Serie A. According to him, there is a double standard in the use of VAR by referees.

“VAR is not used the same way by everyone. VAR is very important to make big decisions. Last season, I felt confident about it,” said Conte as reported by Italian Football.

“However, today, we do not understand how VAR is used because there is a lot of worry and instability. If I become a referee and use VAR, I will make decisions and view recordings. That can make me peaceful.”

Meanwhile, Maurizio Sarri indicated the need for restrictions on the use of VARs. According to him, the referee has the right to be given more freedom to make decisions.

“I prefer the referee who controls the match. Not all situations need to be discussed. When there was a handball, I still didn’t understand the rules,” Sarri said.

Previously, Juventus got the spotlight when winning 2-1 against Genoa. Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty at the end of the match was considered a condition with controversy because CR7 was accused of diving.

“I can’t say I don’t like VAR. The technology has come to find a big mistake,” Sarri explained.

“Now, VAR is used three to four times in one match. Meanwhile, overseas, they make restrictions on the use of VAR.”

Due to chaos about the VAR, the Italian referees association, AIA, made a quick decision. AIA has decided not to assign two referees, Piero Giacomelli and Massimiliano Irrati, to lead the match this week.
