DBasia.news – The Netherlands managed to lock a ticket to the 2022 World Cup after missing the previous edition. This achievement was greeted positively by the captain of De Oranje, Virgil van Dijk.

The Netherlands confirmed themselves to qualify for the 2022 World Cup after winning over Norway at Feyenoord Stadium, Wednesday (11/17/2021). Louis van Gaal’s squad won 2-0.

The two goals were created towards the end of the second half. Steven Bergwijn broke the deadlock in the 84th minute, while the second goal was scored by Memphis Depay when the match entered injury time.

The result brought the Netherlands to end the qualifying phase for the 2022 World Cup in the European zone with the status of Group G winners with 23 points. They are two points ahead of Turkey, who were runners-up and had to go through the play-off phase.

The Netherlands finally returned to the World Cup after four years previously failed to qualify from the qualifying phase. The Netherlands at that time was in third place in Group A behind France and Sweden.

The Netherlands’ qualification for the 2022 World Cup has been appreciated by Virgil van Dijk. The Liverpool defender is proud and happy to be able to bring his country to appear in the biggest football competition in the world.

“I am very proud of this team. It may be difficult to toy with the idea that any mistake can be fatal, but we accept it,” Van Dijk told De Telegraaf.

“I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m really looking forward to it. We showed real character, it wasn’t easy to switch quickly after the 2-2 score in Montenegro, but we did it.”

“I am very sorry that the national coach is watching us from a distance and the fans are not there at all. We will celebrate this success well. I can’t wait for the World Cup,” said Virgil van Dijk.
