Watch Serie A lag behind the Competition in other European Elites, Fabio Capello Is Furious

DBasia.news – The crisis in Italian football really looks real this year (2022). Not only did the Italian national team fail to qualify for the World Cup twice in a row, Serie A clubs also couldn’t ‘talk much’ in European club tournaments.

In the quarter-finals of the Champions League there were no more clubs left, Inter Milan and Juventus were eliminated in the last 16. While in the Europa League Atalanta drew 1-1 with Leipzig in the first leg of the quarter-finals, and Roma lost 1-2 to Bodo/Glimt in the Conference League.

Inter, Juventus, AC Milan, Atalanta, and Roma participated in Serie A. Long ago in the mid 1990s to early 2000s Serie A was one of the best leagues in Europe with many stars playing there.

But now the situation has turned 180 degrees. Serie A clubs have difficulty competing in Europe and are no longer a magnet for top players in Europe. Former Juventus and Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello explains the reasons why Italian football has changed drastically.

“Italian football is far behind the others. The ball doesn’t move fast, the referee blows the whistle too often. They stop the game too often. Every duel is a foul, so there is never any intensity,” Capello said as quoted by Football-Italy.

“The biggest problem is that the best players don’t come to Italy anymore. You won’t learn anything if you don’t meet the best. We need stadiums and infrastructure,” he explained.

Capello’s predictions are not even half-hearted about the time of Italy’s return to the top of Europe’s top leagues.

“(Not five six years), even eight (years). In Italy, everyone intervenes. Politicians, environmental associations and so on… for the youth sector, those in charge should travel to Spain where they work on technique, not on tactics,” added Capello.
