Wembley Stadium labeled as being friendly to away teams

By db-admin

England must give up the dream of winning the European Cup for the first time. The Three Lions lost to Italy on penalties with a score of 2-3 (1-1), in the 2020 European Cup final at Wembley Stadium, Monday (12/7) am, WIB.

No doubt, Wembley Stadium, which is known as an icon of the England national team, is labeled as a friendly home for the visitors. Several times, The Three Lions or English clubs have had to languish during important matches.

Wembley’s History

Wembley was first opened to the public in 1923. Previously, this stadium was an exhibition facility and a place for the British Royal family to carry out outdoor activities.

The two twin towers located at the main gate became Wembley’s trademark. This stadium later also became the headquarters of the England national team in entertaining its opponents.

Wembley Stadium was once a historic place for the England national team, when they won the 1966 World Cup. At that time, England beat West Germany with a score of 4-2 in extra time.

Guest Friendly House

Long before the 1966 World Cup, Wembley was also used for the 1948 Olympics. Wembley has held many international sporting and non-sporting events.

The stadium is also used as a venue for rugby, American Football and boxing matches. In addition, it was also used as a venue for large concerts. However, the DNA of the stadium is the headquarters of the England national team.

Unfortunately, the 1966 World Cup champion was England’s first and last title to date in a major tournament. After that, Wembley seemed to be a welcoming home for guests.

The story of England languishing at Wembley happened during the 1996 European Cup. England, who was the host, had to fall at the hands of Germany in the semifinals.

Then England never qualified for the 2008 European Cup. At Wembley, the English national team was beaten 2-3 by Croatia. As a result, Steve McClaren was dismissed by the FA.

In addition, English club Manchester United once languished at Wembley Stadium. Man United lost 3-1 to Barcelona in the 2011 Champions League final.

Plus Wembley was once the venue for the fight between two German Bundesliga clubs in the 2013 Champions League final, between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Bayern won 2-1 over Dortmund. This is proof that Germany is superior on British soil.

Of course, lastly Italy crushed England’s dream at Wembley. This adds to Wembley’s lineup of being a welcoming home for guests.
