What is the future of Jurgen Klopp?
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Liverpool fans were shocked by the news of the sale of the club by Liverpool owner, FSG (Fenway Sports Group). FSG also had the Boston Red Sox make a statement.
“There have been a number of recent ownership changes and rumors of ownership changes at EPL clubs and we are inevitably asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool,” said a statement from FSG.
“FSG has frequently received statements of interest from third parties wishing to become shareholders in Liverpool. FSG have said previously that under proper terms and conditions we will consider new shareholders if it is in Liverpool’s best interest as a club.”
“FSG remains fully committed to Liverpool’s success, both on and off the pitch.”
FSG have owned Liverpool since 2010 when it was bought from George Gillett Jr and Tom Hicks. In that period Liverpool signed Jurgen Klopp in 2015 and successfully ended the wait for the Premier League title, also winning the Champions League, League Cup and FA Cup.
During the FSG period, Anfield was transformed, with a new main stand of 110 million pounds, while the Anfield Road stand was still under construction. The 80 million pounds project will end in the summer of 2023 and will add an audience capacity of 61,000.
No one knows for sure the reason for the sale, but according to football financier Kieran Maguire, Liverpool are looking to test the club’s sales market with interest from other buyers.
“This means some of the tentative interest they have had over the last two to three years has prompted them to try to test the market. Is there someone willing to take over now?” Maguire told BBC Sport.
“There have been over 200 bidders for Chelsea and that is a sad asset. FSG will note that and, given that Liverpool are such a huge brand, they will be doing their numbers with a view to making a significant return on the initial 300 million pounds.”
Jurgen Klopp’s Future Fate
The future of the German manager is also a mystery after the statement regarding the sale of the club. Klopp still has a four-year contract with Liverpool and he has a good relationship with FSG chairman Mike Gordon.
“The relationship was great. Actually from day one. From then on, we had a great relationship professionally as well as personally. With Mike, we worked closely together, that’s how it is,” Klopp said in 2020.
“It’s worked really well. They were my first owners, so I can’t compare them. They are the best owners I’ve worked for, for sure! No problem if things don’t happen. You don’t need personal relationships in this business. We have worked together brilliantly.”
His future’s fate is uncertain. Given the fate of Thomas Tuchel who was sacked and replaced by Graham Potter at Chelsea, when the club was led by Todd Boehly, anything could happen if FSG sold Liverpool.
