What is the future of Sergio Busquets at Barcelona?

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Sergio Busquets is reportedly set to finish his MLS career, but Barcelona are also reportedly keen to keep their holding midfielder for another year. With the two sides apparently far apart in negotiations, club president Joan Laporta has opted to intervene and will meet with the player to make a decision.

The 34-year-old agreed to a contract which expires in 2025 last summer, but LaLiga refused to accept those terms. The club then created a termination clause in the agreement which stated Busquets could go to MLS if an agreement was reached.

Busquets has been relaxed about his future, but revealed in November that he wanted to make a decision on his contract by February 2023.

“It’s my last year, I know a lot has been said, but I always say the same. I don’t sign anything from one side or the other,” he said. “We’ll see how it goes, but around February or later I want to be clear and decide.”

The former Spanish international player has returned to Barcelona after starting all four of his country’s World Cup matches. Busquets will still be a regular part of the starting XI for now at least.
