When Courtois Becomes No. 1 Enemy for Chelsea Fans

DBasia.news – From hero to zero, from the hero to be the number one public enemy. Perhaps that’s what the 26-year-old goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois feels now. His exit from Chelsea to Real Madrid this summer left the unfinished story.
Chelsea fans might ignore his transfer fee worth around £35M. No one is bigger than the club itself. But, the way Courtois left is what triggered the love to hate feeling from Chelsea fans.
Courtois is believed insisting Chelsea sell him to Madrid. He passed the Chelsea preseason training under Maurizio Sarri. This changed the perception from the Chelsea fans toward him. Courtois feels very sad becoming the number one enemy for Chelsea.
“It makes me feel sad and obviously they don’t know all the truth. I think in March the decision was already made and I thought the club would accept it. Then because the transfer was closed I did not show up because I thought it better not to disturb the team and the squad. If I did go there maybe, I didn’t want to be toxic,” Courtois said reported by Goal.
“So obviously it is a pity because I love Chelsea. I loved playing there,” he continued. During his four years supporting Chelsea, the rest three years loaned to Atletico Madrid, Courtois never made any trouble and always showed his professionalism by achieving two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and League Cup.
His transfer to Madrid changed everything. Chelsea’s fans were upset seeing Courtois kissed the logo in Madrid jersey during the public announcement. Moreover, recently he said that the training intensity in Madrid is higher than Chelsea. Courtois tried to clarify.
“I never meant that. I just said maybe in training it goes a little bit faster but that is also the quality of Real Madrid – that is not saying Chelsea does not have quality. I will always look back with a happy feeling to Chelsea,” Courtois added.
“I had a chance to go back to Spain to be closer to my kids. That was an important thing for me. I know that a lot of Chelsea fans will understand my decision. I wish them the best and I am happy to see that they have won their first four games and I hope they can go on and win the league,” he expected.
