DBasia.news – Neither injured nor card accumulation, Mesut Ozil didn’t show up when Arsenal defeated 0-1 by West Ham United in the London Derby, Saturday (12/1).
The situation raised controversy, especially considering that Ozil is the highest-paid player in The Gunners current squad after renewing his contract at Emirates Stadium until the end of the season.
Despite the failure of finishing top-four in the Premier League without his star player, Arsenal manager Unai Emery insisted that his decision of excluding Ozil in the match against The Hammers is the right thing.
“I decided the idea of the players that I think are the best for this match. We win with him, we lose with him. I think it is not one player (which means) we can’t win or lose,” Unai Emery said in an interview cited by Sky Sports.
Emery’s comment would trigger the reaction after the former coach of Paris Saint-Germain said that the squad chosen for the match against The Hammers are those who deserved to be in the squad.
