DBasia.news – Nice defender who is currently on loan by Arsenal, William Saliba, has expressed his feelings about Gunners manager, Mikel Arteta. He was disappointed Arteta did not give him more confidence to play.
Saliba (19 years old) again accepted the fate of being loaned back to another club (Nice) by Arsenal after last season being schooled to Saint-Etienne.
Saliba is one of the players released by Arsenal in January 2021 following in the footsteps of Mesut Ozil and Sokratis. Saliba initially accepted it.
“The coach immediately told me that I was not ready. At least I wanted to have the opportunity to find my rhythm again. But this is football, it’s like that,” said Saliba some time ago.
Recently Saliba replied to this statement differently. The French defender frankly shared his disappointment with Arteta when he was interviewed by RMC. Saliba was annoyed that Arteta only assessed him briefly and then gave the decision to lend him.
“It is clear that a lot has changed in the last year. When I see that the coach has changed a lot for me too,” explained Saliba.
“This year there have been a lot of changes. He (Arteta) judged me at two and a half games. I wanted him to play more with me. But he told me that I was not ready.”
“I’m waiting for him to give me a chance, but football is like that.”
“When I first came to Arsenal the league looked really good so I showed up to train and wanted to train myself to show the coach that I was ready.”
“I’m happy now, I want to play for Nice. The idea when you are part of the team is a better feeling for me,” he added.
Arteta also said that he chose to lend Saliba. According to him this is a transitional period, Saliba is expected to play a lot at Nice and increase his playing time considering that he is only 19 years old.
