Xavi Hernandez failed to meet the high expectations

DBasia.news – Barcelona started their work in LaLiga 2022-2023 less well. Xavi Hernandez, the coach, failed to meet the high expectations of the Blaugrana fans.

High enthusiasm has indeed enveloped Barcelona. It could not be separated from the arrival of five new stars in the summer transfer market.

The presence of Robert Lewandowski, Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Raphinha, and Jules Kunde is believed to have made Barcelona the main candidate to win the La Liga title this season. Moreover, El Barca’s performance was also impressive throughout the pre-season.

No wonder Barcelona fans expect a shower of goals when their favorite team host Rayo Vallecano at Camp Nou, Sunday (14/8). Unfortunately that hope was not fulfilled as the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

This result in fact made Xavi disappointed. But he refuses to make excuses.

“It was not our best game and one point was not enough. With the chances we created, we should have scored at least one goal,” Xavi said after the game.

“Rayo’s defensive system is great and their goalkeeper is great. The humidity and heat also affected us although obviously the same goes for Rayo.”

Xavi also seems to have been aware of the disappointment of the fans. But he asked them to be patient a little longer.

“I understand the disappointment (of the fans) because we have generated a lot of expectations. We have to analyze the game well, improve and move on,” he added.

“In the last game we scored 3 goals in 10 minutes and today we couldn’t do it in 98 minutes. I’ve told the players the pressure is on me now.”
