A Historical day in Serie A

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Week seven of Serie A 2022-2023 must be remembered as a historic moment in Serie A. Great and historical Serie A teams have fallen.

As informed by Opta Paolo, Inter Milan, Juventus, AS Roma and AC Milan lost on day one for the first time since February 13, 1955 or 67 years ago. A rare sight indeed.

That doesn’t mean the dominance or dynasties of these historic clubs are over, as this is just one game where the winner gets 3 points and the loser goes home with no points. But when they happen together, it’s quite unique.

The first team to lose was Inter Milan. Il Nerazzurri faced Udinese’s tenacity and strong commitment to play at the Stadio Friuli. Despite winning 1-0 from Nicolo Barella’s goal (5′), Inter actually got a comeback.

Udinese turned to win from own goals by Milan Skriniar (22′), Jaka Bijol (84′), and Tolgay Arslan (90+3′). Udinese was at the top of the standings before being taken over again by Napoli who beat AC Milan.

Udinese are the dark horses of competition in the top four of Serie A, while Napoli, who is one of the candidates for the title, defeated the defending champions, Milan at the San Siro, 2-1 through goals from Matteo Politano (55′ penalty) and Giovanni Simeone (78′) which was minimized by Olivier Giroud’s goal (69′).

The win ended Milan’s 22-game of unbeaten streak in Serie A, as well as being Napoli’s third straight win at the San Siro (first since 1979).

It’s the same in other games. Juventus unexpectedly lost 0-1 to promoted team, Monza, through Christian Gytkjaer’s goal (74′). It was Monza’s first all-time win in Serie A against a historic and most successful team in the competition.

Juventus are indeed in a minor period, even so the result is still surprising as on paper Massimiliano Allegri’s team should be able to beat Monza.

Finally, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma lost 0-1 against Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico. Atalanta’s goal was scored by Giorgio Scalvini (35′) and Roma had difficulty to score, despite having 57% possession, 21 shots (5 on target).

The impact of week seven of Serie A 2022-2023 becomes interesting if you look at the top four. Yes, currently in that order there are Napoli, Atalanta, Udinese, and Lazio. Here is the Serie A standings in the top 10:
