AS Roma Plans to Recruit English Players Again after Bringing in Chris Smalling
By db-admin
DBasia.news – After recruiting the English player from Manchester United club, Chris Smalling, AS Roma is also rumored to be recruiting Jack Rodwell. This shows that AS Roma are still trying to bring in players from England.
The 28-year-old midfielder no longer owns the club after being released by Blackburn Rovers this year. Rodwell wants to be made an alternative by Paulo Fonseca’s AS Roma following the injury storm that hit the Italian Capital team.
Bryan Cristante, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Nikola Kalinic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Cengiz Under, Amadou Diawara, and Davide Zappacosta, are the names that fill Rome’s treatment room. Because of the midfielder crisis, Fonseca had placed Gianluca Mancini to the center.
Mancini played as a midfielder after Roma drew 1-1 against Bundesliga leaders, Borussia Monchengladbach despite his center-back position. Awaiting the winter transfer market for a while and only opened in January 2020.
No doubt, recruiting players who do not have a club (free agent) is a short-term solution at this time. Rodwell reportedly was present to witness first hand the match between AS Roma against Gladbach which took place at the Stadio Olimpico, Thursday (10/24) PM.
Rodwell will overtake Ashley Cole and Smalling as English players who defend Rome if he joins the club. In England, Rodwell has a reputation as a wonderkid who failed to develop his potential.
The Everton academy products performed well in the Everton first team in mid 2007-2012. However, since moving to Manchester City in 2012 his career began to fade and left in 2014. Afterwards, Rodwell defended Sunderland (2014-2018) and Blackburn (2018-19).
