Atalanta Escaped the Big 16, Club President Gives a Shocking Response
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Atalanta president Luca Percassi said he was proud and did not believe the club’s achievement. For the first time, Atalanta made it through to the last 16 of the 2019-2020 Champions League.
In the final Champions League Group C match, Atalanta won 3-0 over Shakhtar Donetsk. All three goals were scored by Timothy Castagne, Mario Pasalic, and Robin Gosens in the second round. These results make them ranked second in the final standings.
Seeing the achievements of his club, Luca Percassi also reacted. He admitted that he still did not understand what Gian Piero Gasperini’s foster children had done. Not only that, but he also joked that his team has been fighting all opportunities this season.
“Hard to believe. I still cannot understand what we are trying to achieve at this time. His chances are really against us. We have a very small chance to pass it, but we do it thanks to the extraordinary performance,” Percassi told Sky Sport Italia, Thursday (12/12/2019).
“It was very emotional to see Atalanta win in this difficult situation. I am also happy for my father Antonio, the club president who has been a fan of the club all his life and started with the youth academy,” he added.
Furthermore, the president stressed that La Dea must return to work hard in the next match in Serie A. “From tomorrow we must return to work as usual. But tonight let’s enjoy the most important day in the history of this club,” he concluded.
