DBasia.news – Italian transfer expert, Gianluca, Di Marzio expressed Atalanta’s intention to recruit Juventus legend, Gianluigi Buffon. His experience is believed to be useful in Atalanta in the Champions League.
Atalanta managed to become one of Italy’s representatives in the Champions League 2019-2020. As last season, Orobici finished third in the Serie A final standings.
Atalanta seemed like they didn’t want to be just a complement in the Champions League. They are ready to bring a number of new players to be able to show off.
Previously, Atalanta was reported to be one step away from bringing Sevilla forward, Luis Muriel. The two clubs agreed on 15 million euros for the Colombian national team player.
Not stopping there, Atalanta were also eyeing at Italian goalkeeper, Gianlugi Buffon. Atalanta assessed that Buffon’s ability has not declined even though he is 41 years old.
At present, Gianluigi Buffon is not tied to the club. The goalkeeper left Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2018-2019 season. Buffon only played one season at Les Parisiens.
Buffon is reportedly interested in returning to Italy. However, Atalanta needs to be aware of FC Porto who are also eyeing the former AC Parma goalkeeper.
Gianluigi Buffon has fond memories with Juventus. He brought the Bianconeri to the Serie A title, Coppa Italia, to the Italian Super Cup. However, Buffon has never won a European competition trophy.
Atalanta’s chance in bringing in Gianluigi Buffon: 40 percent
Gianluigi Buffon is the right choice for Atalanta. Besides having experience and capabilities that are still at the top level, Buffon can also be brought in free of charge. However, as explained above, Porto could threaten Atalanta’s wishes.
