DBasia.news – Barcelona star, Lionel Messi complained about the goal concede to Barcelona this season. Messi thinks Barcelona’s defensive line needs improvement.
This season, Barcelona got conceded 8 goals from 7 LaLiga matches. This has never happened before, even though Barca are still leading the standing. We need to rewind back to the last 13 years to see Barca’s fragile defense.
It was in 2005-2006 season when the team were coached under Frank Rijkaard. From seven initial matches of LaLiga, Victor Valdes’ net has been conceded 10 times and they sat in the 6th rank with 10 points. The situation was worse. But, at the end of the season, they compensated it with the achievement to steal the LaLiga and Champions League titles.
Thanks to Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto’o, Ludovic Giuly, and Deco, their productivity to score the goal was maintained despite the weak defense. Barca’s fragile defensive line at that time was a bit unique because it was supported by great defenders like Rafael Marquez, Carles Puyol, Oleguer Presas, and Edmilson.
Barcelona
From seven LaLiga matches this season, Barca just scored the clean sheets in the match against Deportivo Alaves (3-0) and Real Valladolid (1-0). In the next five matches, Marc Andre ter Stegen’s net always conceded.
The five matches were: Huesca (8-2), Real Sociedad (2-1), Girona (2-2), Leganes (1-2), and Bilbao (1-1). Barca’s difficulty in guarding the net resulted to three consecutive matches without the victory.
Clement Lenglet’s presence in the defensive line to support Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, and Thomas Vermaelen hasn’t given any significant impact. Ernesto Valverde must finish the homework.
Sport-English believed Valverde’s serenity in front of media and his speaking style won’t compensate his disappointment and critics to the players in the dressing room, especially for the lack of character issue.
