Development program failed?
By news-admin
DBasia.news – The recognition of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) on the ability of naturalized players reflects the failure of the master body despite more than 80 years of leading football in the country.
Senior lecturer at the Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI), Dr Zulakbal Abd Karim, described the FAM’s attempt to take ‘short cut’ to prove the failure of the master body in drafting the grassroots development program.
“At the time FAM wants to use the naturalization player, it has actually shown that various development programs that have been implemented for decades have not shown any impressive results.
“The failure of this development program is the cause of our desperate need for players who are really talented and able to compete thus forcing us to use a naturalized player.
“So, before the proposal is really going to be implemented, I hope further research is possible and the FAM needs to get the views of the stakeholders as this proposal will bring a big change to the national football landscape,” he said when contacted today.
At the same time Zulakbal, who is also the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Elite Instructor , also questioned the quality of import players who want to play in the country whether it can help improve the quality of national football squad or vice versa.
“If it is based on the country’s ranking, I think it’s hard to get good players and players willing to play with the national squad.
“If there is anything, maybe they are not as good as expected and what’s worried is if their quality is only equal to the local players,” he said.
Last Saturday, the parent body announced they were ready to study the proposal to allow naturalized players to represent the Harimau Malaya squad in the future.
The announcement was announced by its president, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, who admitted that the proposal to neutralize foreign players by giving the country’s citizenship to be seen as the best alternative to help improve the position of the national team as the Philippines did.
However, the proposal was blamed for the former defense of the national squad, Datuk Santokh Singh who clearly did not agree to use the ‘tiger import’ service as an alternative to boosting the national football ranking.
He said the national team should be lined up by the players born in the country and not the people of the outside who were given citizenship.
