FAM chooses Sumareh?

DBasia.news – KUALA LUMPUR: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) proposed to open the door to naturalized players in action with the national squad is still in its early stages.

However, the name of the player who has to be on the list of Harimau Malaya’s squad’s squad is certainly the Gambia-born Mohamadou Sumareh.

The 23-year-old has earned Malaysian Citizenship status last April and has a brilliant record in the Malaysian League (M-League) competition since making his first appearance with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in 2013.

Sumareh who currently represents Pahang and helps the Tok Gajah squad to embrace the FA Cup on July 7, admits to be ready to be called Tan Cheng Hoe’s operator in particular for the November AFF Cup campaign.

“If I get the offer to represent the national squad, it’s a tribute and will try to help me all my efforts,” the striker said.

Sumareh says he has lived in Malaysia since the age of 13 and started his professional football career four years later.

Hence, he considers Malaysia as ‘his first home’.

“I grew up here, my football career also started here, maybe there’s an foreign player called in to the national squad for just a moment but I’ve been here for a long time.

“So if somebody say naturalist players has no spirit in me, they are wrong. If I squander this opportunity, I’m not just betraying Malaysia, but betraying myself.

“I’m 100 percent committed to the club, why can I not give 120 percent of the commitment to the national team?

And I know pressure as a naturalized player is definitely heavy but I am a player who always wants a challenge. The pressure will make me better, “he said.

Previously, only mixed-raced players represented the national squad, which includes Matthew Davies (Pahang), Natxo Insa (JDT), Brendan Gan (Perak) and Khair Jones (Melaka United).
