Fernandinho’s New Role That Can Extend His Career

DBasia.news –  For many years Fernandinho has served as a defensive midfielder. He is not getting any younger. To maintain the continuity of his future career, Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, found him a  new position as a defender.

Manchester City will carry the mission of finding Fernandinho successor in the 2019 summer transfer market. Understandably, the player is now 33 years old.

Even so, Pep Guardiola tried to put Fernandinho in the position of central defender when Manchester City met Arsenal. As a result, Fernandinho played quite nicely. Moreover, at that position the player did not need stamina like a midfielder.

“I think he can play in that position. I am pretty sure. He is fast, strong in the air, good at defense and when he sees the ball he plays nicely. He has excellent feedback, vision and transition,” explained Guardiola as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

“So, he is smart when attacking or retreating, he understands everything. Of course he has to practice more. I think he can do it, but in his position as a midfield player,” he continued.

“However, I know what will happen, we will lose when Fernandinho plays in that position. He can play there because we have analyzed his skills and what he needs. We need a man who understands that and that is why we use him.”
