Frank Lampard Reveals the Important Role of Oliver Giroud

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  Chelsea manager Frank Lampard revealed Olivier Giroud’s role in his new tactics, 3-4-2-1. Giroud became the goal of the attacks built by the Blues fans.

Olivier Giroud spearheaded Chelsea in the match against Tottenham Hotspur. The French striker appeared neatly with one goal gain. In the end, the Blues won 2-1.

In that match, Lampard played an unusual formation. The manager played with a three-defender system and put Giroud at the forefront.

“When Olivier Giroud plays, you have to use his strength. You have to run the ball into the penalty box and use him to attract the opposing players,” Lampard said on the official Chelsea website.

“If you successfully adapt to a match like that, it means I, we, and the players can pass the test. Tactics only work well when the players know how to do it.”

According to Lampard, the key to his new tactics lies not only with Olivier Giroud. With that formation, Lampard needs two creative midfielders to provide the ball to the attacker.

“The tactic only works when Ross Barkley and Mason Mount want to move around Giroud to spread threats from the second line,” he added.

“The tactic can only work when three defenders don’t stay behind and let the opposing players take control of the ball. We have trained him, but the players who struggle and display that tactic,” explained the manager.

In fact, Olivier Giroud is very close to the exit of Chelsea in the 2020 winter transfer window. The former Arsenal received offers from several Serie A clubs such as Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Lazio.
