DBasia.news –  Arsenal lost 1-2 to Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Cup at Camp Nou on Monday (5/8) early morning Western Indonesian Time. Had the lead via Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal, the Gunners lost through an own goal by Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Luis Suarez’s kick.

The match which took place at Camp Nou, the Barcelona headquarters, is an annual tradition in each pre-season as well as the introduction of a new squad ahead of the new season. One of the recruits who became starters, Frenkie De Jong was impressed with the welcoming ceremony.

“The presentation of the squad and the support of the fans in my debut at Camp Nou was very impressive,” De Jong said after the match.

Appearing to be a starter, De Jong was asked as the 2019 Joan Gamper Cup MVP. Uniquely, he felt unworthy of the award. “I don’t deserve this MVP award,” he said. He also saw Barca not playing optimally.

“We didn’t play a good match. I believe we need to have better rhythm when starting to flow the ball and do a better job with pressing after losing the ball,” criticized De Jong.

“There is a difference between Barça and Ajax. At these two clubs, we did try to keep the ball, but the rest is very different.”
