DBasia.news – Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was officially named the Ligue 1 champion 2019-2020 after the competition was stopped due to the corona virus pandemic. Les Parisiens presented the trophy to the medical staff and those who struggle with the virus.

Operator Ligue 1 (LFP) ordained PSG as the champion after holding a meeting on Thursday (30/4) local time. Two days earlier, the competition had to be postponed as the French government has banned the holding of sporting events until the end of August.

PSG is considered entitled for the trophy as they were leading the standings when the competition was suspended in March. Thomas Tuchel’s team is 12 points ahead of Olympique Marseille who arr in second place.

This is the third consecutive Ligue 1 title won by PSG. In total the French capital club has collected nine league trophies.

“We want to dedicate this 2019-2020 Ligue 1 title to medical personnel and heroes who are on the front lines every day. Their commitment and sacrifice over the past few weeks has impressed us,” PSG President, Nasser Al-Khelaifi told the official website club.

“We understand, respect and support the decision taken by the French government to end the competition. Health, as the government always says, must be everyone’s priority.”

France has indeed become one of the countries affected by the corona virus. In record there are more than 24 thousand people who have died after being infected with the virus.

PSG itself has become one of the clubs that play an active role against the corona virus. They had released a special jersey that sales were donated to help medical personnel.

“In difficult times like this, I hope this trophy can give a little happiness and hope to all our supporters. I feel honored for their relentless support to bring PSG better,” he concluded.
