Guardiola Becomes the Manager Who Defeated Real Madrid the Most

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  Manchester City managed to conquer Real Madrid in the Champions League first leg on Thursday (2/27) early morning hrs with a score of 2-1. The results also made the Citizens manager a manager who often defeated Los Blancos.

Coming from behind on Isco’s goal (60 ‘), The Citizens won back from two additional goals by Gabriel Jesus (78’) and Kevin De Bruyne (83 ‘penalty). Man City won 2-1 and Real Madrid played with 10 players when Sergio Ramos received a red card in the 86th minute.

“This ( Man City appearance ) masterclass. Often people question Pep – not making David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho (as a starter) – he deserves very high appreciation,” said former City defender Micah Richards on the BBC Sport.

“Tonight he showed that if he is not the best (coach) of the world, then he is one of the three best.”

Pep Guardiola’s genius tactics were already visible when he applied 4-4-1-1 and reserved players like David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho, and Raheem Sterling. The last name is not performing well.

“Raheem Sterling is not in the best form (of the game) lately,” Richards added.

“But he can change the game by running in the middle of an opposing defender. You can see why Real Madrid is interested in him. But City has better players than them,” he continued.

The victory over Real Madrid brought Pep Guardiola through a record of three coaches (and former coaches) at once in the category: the manager with the most wins in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola won 28 matches, past Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, and Carlo Ancelotti, who both won 27 matches. It was quoted from Opta.

Not only that, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coaches also became the coach with the most wins against Real Madrid in all competitions in the 21st century. 10 wins, past Ernesto Valverde and Diego Simeone (nine wins).
